African Union launched second edition of AU Tech Fellowship initiative
The AU Tech Fellowship program, which builds on the achievements of its predecessor, has been launched by AfriLabs and the African Union (AU). Its goal is to further harness technology and innovation for socio-economic development throughout the continent.
By bringing together technology hubs, startups, investors, and other important players in the ecosystem, AfriLabs is a network organization dedicated to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship on the continent. There are more than 430 members.
With 55 member states, the AU is a continental organization that represents the African continent and works toward “an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena.”
The AU approved the Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa (DTS) at the 36th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, which led to the two organizations launching the AU Tech Fellowship. Initiatives like AU Tech 2.0 are made possible by this strategy, which aims to use digital technologies to foster integration, economic growth, job creation, and the eradication of poverty.
The goal of the AU Tech Fellowship is to locate and place exceptionally talented tech innovators throughout the continent. Fellows are integrated into AU units and organs to gain insight into their functioning, recognize obstacles, and suggest creative resolutions. The program has produced remarkable results since its launch in 2021, with fellows creating specialized goods and procedures to improve the AU’s mission delivery.
The program has yielded notable results, such as the creation of twelve inventive products and the introduction of the digital portal for the African Union, which has transformed the commission’s service delivery system. In addition, the fellowship has not only improved internal capabilities but also promoted closer cooperation between the African Union and its innovation ecosystem.
