Climate-focused Mega Green Accelerator selected Egyptian, Tunisian startups
Eight MENA-based startups, two from Egypt and one from Tunisia, have been chosen to advance innovative climate solutions through the Saudi-based Mega Green Accelerator.
The Mega Green Accelerator, which was established by PepsiCo, SABIC, and AstroLabs among other partners, aims to support innovators in creating and implementing sustainable solutions to mitigate climate change. The accelerator will support the upcoming generation of innovators as they work to solve sustainability issues on a local and global scale.
The chosen startups will get funding, industry expert mentorship, and market access to scale their creative solutions over the course of the six-month program. The program will conclude later this year, and one winning company will receive US $30,000 in funding to carry out further expansion.
Three hundred and sixty-three sustainable startups from around the region were chosen to participate in the program, including companies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, and Tunisia.
Two Egyptian companies are P-VITA, a biotechnology hub that specializes in creating natural raw materials for the food and beverage and cosmetics industries using AI and IoT technologies, and Viridia Tech, which provides a platform for crop analytics at scale for industrial agricultural businesses. Kumulus is a water-tech startup based in Tunisia that uses cutting-edge AWG machines to transform air into clean drinking water.
The other five selected startups are the Saudi Arabian companies Ahya Technologies and Mirai Solar, the Lebanese company YY ReGen, and the United Arab Emirates’ Mrüna and The Surpluss.
“With solutions spanning agriculture, water, and the energy sectors, this is an opportunity for us to accelerate the development of practical climate technologies crucial to address the MENA region’s challenges and strengthen our position as a testbed for climate innovation globally. Startups can act as epicentres of innovation, and reshape, disrupt, and define our future. The Mega Green Accelerator provides the incentive to bolster this through cross-sector collaboration and nurture the region’s next generation of entrepreneurs by providing the needed mentorship, funding, and market access,” said Eugene Willemsen, CEO for Africa, Middle East, and South Asia at PepsiCo.
