AI competition continues, with ChatGPT for novices and Claude for experts: GenAI Fund

According to a recent study by the Vietnam-based GenAI Fund, the platform adoption rates of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude are about identical overall, but they diverge significantly when builders are divided based on experience.

2,719 approved builders from 55 nations are included in the study, which was made public on Thursday. It demonstrates that experts choose Claude, while novices like ChatGPT. Builders in their first year or two of using AI technologies are referred to as “beginners.” Builders with two or more years of practical experience writing production-ready code and creating systems for corporate deployment are referred to as “experts.”

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has the highest platform adoption rate (77.9%) throughout the entire dataset, followed by Google’s Gemini (61.1%) and Anthropic’s Claude (76.6%). DeepSeek is ranked at 18.2 percent, Hugging Face at 12.8 percent, Qwen at 11.6 percent, LangChain at 9.8 percent, Vertex AI at 7.7 percent, AWS Bedrock at 7.6 percent, Meta Llama at 6.8 percent, Groq at 6.7 percent, and Azure OpenAI at 5.2 percent.

Because 81.7% of builders use multiple platforms at once, totals surpass 100%. At least one Chinese model is used by 27.5% of people.

Up to 27.5% of those surveyed use at least one Chinese AI model.

Across role kinds, the gap is also apparent. OpenAI has the highest percentage of students (84.1%), followed by Claude (76.4%) and Gemini (72.9%).

Claude has a higher percentage of engineers (84.4%) than OpenAI (79.2%) and Gemini (55.9%).

Claude has a higher percentage of enterprise teams (77.7%) than OpenAI (74.2%) and Gemini (55.3%).

A more detailed account is provided by the complete experience analysis. OpenAI and Claude rank 79.3% and 70.9%, respectively, among builders with less than a year of experience. Claude has already surpassed OpenAI by one to two years of experience, scoring 79.2 percent as opposed to OpenAI’s 78.2 percent.

The two platforms are virtually tied at 81.4 percent and 81.2 percent, respectively, after three to five years. Claude is ahead at 78.4 percent compared to OpenAI’s 72.4 percent at six to ten years. Both platforms are at 73.8% among builders with ten or more years of expertise.

The majority of people in the building community are technical. Of the 1,952 builders with language data, 72.5 percent use Python, 43.6 percent use JavaScript and TypeScript, 17.5 percent use Java, 14.9 percent use C and C++, and 8.9 percent use Go.
