Allen Shim, Former CFO of Slack, Joins UNL Global’s Board of Directors

Amsterdam, Netherlands— UNL Global, a smart micro-location infrastructure and new-generation mapping technology startup, announced today that Allen Shim, former CFO of Slack, has joined the company’s Board of Directors. Shim will bring extensive experience in building and scaling technology startups, as UNL continues to expand its operations in Southeast Asia, India, and the Middle East.

Most recently, Allen Shim served as the Chief Financial Officer of Slack Technologies, Inc., where he led the company’s growth from a 20-person startup to a public company until its acquisition by Salesforce in 2021. During his over 7-year tenure at Slack, he was responsible for the company’s financial management strategy which included overseeing global operations, finance, administration, and IT.

Speaking about his decision to join the UNL team, Allen Shim said, “Deep tech companies like UNL demonstrate the need to disrupt existing technologies that cannot fully address today’s challenges. This is particularly evident in emerging markets where UNL is building solutions to address the growing challenges in these regions that are unmet by today’s mapping technologies. I’m excited to be joining UNL to support their vision of building the Internet of Places. I look forward to working alongside the UNL team and leveraging my experiences to further their growth and bring this vision to reality.”

UNL is a smart micro-location infrastructure and new-generation mapping technology startup based in Singapore, with offices in New Delhi (India), Amsterdam (NL), and Dubai. The startup is transforming places into the next digital platform by digitizing physical locations and creating an infrastructure to interact with them. Adding a programmable layer to real-life locations, UNL is building the Internet of Places – a digital 1:1 geodata twin of the physical world.

“UNL is scaling rapidly, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have Allen on board, an industry veteran with an exceptional track record in building and scaling high-growth companies. Allen’s experience has already proven to be invaluable to UNL, guiding us toward our next phase of growth and advising on the company’s long-term strategic direction as we continue to build out UNL’s technology and bring our Platform to new markets,” said UNL CEO and Founder, Xander van der Heijden.

Shim is currently an adviser and angel investor based in Singapore.  Prior to Slack, Shim was the VP of Finance and Treasurer at YuMe, where he helped drive growth from its startup period through an IPO. Earlier in his career, he worked at Yahoo after working as an equity research analyst for Sanford C. Bernstein and Citigroup Asset Management.

Shim received his BS in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and is a CFA charter holder.
