Google inviting African AI startups to apply for its Startups Accelerator Africa program

The Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program is now accepting applications. It is a three-month program that supports early-stage startups that use artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle the most important issues facing Africa.

The Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program was launched in 2018 and has since helped 140 startups from nearly 17 African nations. Seed to Series A African startups developing AI-first solutions are now eligible to apply for the program.

A working product, at least one African American founder, and a clear vision for ethical AI innovation are requirements for startups. A global network of investors, partners, and collaborators will be made available to chosen participants, who will also receive up to US$350,000 in Google Cloud credits, specialized technical mentorship from Google and industry experts, and workshops centered around technology, product strategy, people leadership, and AI implementation.

“Startups are Africa’s problem solvers. With the right resources, they can scale their impact far beyond local communities,” said Folarin Aiyegbusi, head of startup ecosystem for Africa at Google. “This programme reflects our belief that AI can be transformative when shaped by those who understand the context deeply.”
