Meme-based dating app Schmooze raised $4 M Series A funding from Elevation
Elevation Capital led a $4 million Series A funding round for Schmooze, a dating app based on memes. The founders of Ultrahuman, The Souled Store, Mosaic Wellness, and Paytm were among the angel investors who took part in the round.
Prior to this, Schmooze had obtained $3.47 million from Inventus Capital Partners and other sources.
In a press release, Schmooze stated that the additional funds will be utilized to expand user acquisition initiatives.
Schmooze, which was co-founded in 2021 by Vidya Madhavan and Abhinav Anurag, combines cutting-edge AI technology with the cultural significance of memes to allow users to connect based on common interests, personality traits, and sense of humor.
By examining users’ meme interactions, the platform helps them find matches who share their sense of humor and gets rid of the trouble of superficial swipes, giving users more insight into who they are.
Schmooze claims that Genie, an AI dating coach, is one of its features, adding to the whole dating experience by making it more interesting, genuine, and enjoyable. With features like Rant AI, a digital diary that reacts to user inputs, and Roast AI, which mimics conversations with a stand-up comedian, it seeks to combat the social disconnection and loneliness that Gen Z experiences. These features ensure users have company even when they’re not interacting with others.
Schmooze claims to have seen 900 million meme swipes and drawn in excess of a million users in India. In addition, the app claims a three times higher female to male user ratio than other popular dating websites.
