Pre-Series A funding secured by Ethiopian talent marketplace Gebeya
An undisclosed pre-Series A investment from a Japanese VC company will help the Ethiopia-based, SaaS-enabled talent marketplace Gebeya accelerate its continuing development.
Gebeya links startups, SMEs, and multinational organisations with verified, qualified personnel and professional services in more than 30 countries around Africa. Gebeya is headquartered in Addis Abeba and has offices in Kenya and Senegal.
Inclusion Japan (ICJ), a Tokyo-based venture capital firm that made Gebeya its second investment in Ethiopia after mobility startup Dodai, has provided the company with an undisclosed pre-Series A round of funding. Since its founding six years ago, the company has raised various rounds of capital, including a US$2 million back in 2020 that was a part of a larger US $4 million seed round.
With the money, Gebeya will transform from a straightforward two-sided marketplace for IT talent to a provider of marketplaces using a “Marketplace-as-a-Service” model.
Director and co-founder of ICJ Yasuhiro Yoshizawa expressed his “pleasure” at investing in Gebeya.
