Tencent extends AI agent-themed Weixin Mini Program innovation challenge to Southeast Asia

Tencent, a Chinese company, has introduced an AI agent theme and a track specifically for university applications in the Southeast Asia Regional competition of the 5th Weixin Mini Program Global Innovation Challenge in Singapore.
The competition is accessible to young people from Malaysia, Thailand, and other nations in the area, according to a statement released by the Weixin Mini Program on Wednesday.
The Tencent Asia Pacific Management Committee, Singapore’s Association for Research on AI in Learning and Leadership (ARAILL), the Global AI Nexus of Schools (GAINS), and Weixin organized the Southeast Asia Regional competition. Students will create Mini Programs to address real-world issues using Tencent AI tools, including as WorkBuddy, ima, and the Weixin Mini Game platform.
Since its launch in 2022, the Weixin Mini Program Global Innovation Challenge has drawn over 7,000 youth teams from all around the world. Over 287,000 Mini Programs have been hosted by the Weixin Mini Program Education Platform, which supports the competition and has touched almost 8,000 schools and 87,000 students in 11 countries and regions.
Two Singaporean teams earned the Most Valuable Cultural Connection title in addition to the top two prize categories during the 4th Grand Finals, which took place in Shenzhen in May 2026. The first Weixin Mini Program AI Education Innovation Base in Singapore is Bukit Panjang Government High School. As a component of interdisciplinary project-based learning, the school will incorporate the Weixin Mini Program Education Platform into its lower secondary curriculum.
More than 100 nations and regions offer Weixin Mini Program services, and in 2025, over five billion cross-border and international consumers will use Mini Programs. As of June 2026, Weixin Mini Programs in nine Southeast Asian markets, including Singapore and Malaysia, have increased monthly transaction volume by 160% year over year.
WorkBuddy, an AI productivity agent that integrates with WeChat, Slack, Telegram, Discord, GitHub, and Google Drive; Miora, an AI creative studio; TokenHub, a model-as-a-service platform; and ima, an AI knowledge assistant with 13 million monthly active users, more than 420 million knowledge-base files, and availability across nine platforms, are some of Tencent’s AI tools that have been introduced to international markets.
Tencent intends to offer teacher training and AI tools to support young developers throughout the region, according to Zoe Chou, founder of the Weixin Mini Program Global Innovation Challenge. The competition is designed as a platform to empower students to use AI tools to address real-world challenges.
