US cloud company Vercel acquired Egyptian infrastructure startup Stakpak

Vercel, a US-based cloud platform worth US $9.3 billion, has purchased Egyptian firm Stakpak, which created one of the first open-source autonomous DevOps agents.

George Fahmy founded Stakpak in 2023. It started out as an AI-powered assistant that allowed developers to create infrastructure-as-code configurations using natural language. Later, it developed into a production-grade autonomous DevOps platform that could cut infrastructure management tasks from almost four hours to about fifty minutes.

Additionally, it created AI-driven infrastructure security technologies and open-source agent frameworks, which gained popularity among developers creating self-managing cloud environments.

Vercel has now purchased the business, which obtained US $500,000 in pre-seed funding early last year. This acquisition maintains Vercel’s objective of developing from a web application hosting platform into a full-service provider of AI infrastructure. In less than a year, the US corporation has acquired Stakpak three times.

According to the corporation, autonomous AI agents—rather than only human developers—will increasingly create and oversee the next generation of software. It reached a valuation of US$9.3 billion after raising US $300 million in Series F funding in September of last year.
