$300k seed funding raised by Egyptian fitness app Welnes

App for Egyptian fitness Welnes has raised $300,000 in initial money to grow its workforce and prepare for the GCC’s expansion in 2023.

Welnes, founded by Amr Saleh and Amr Diab in 2020, is a community app that provides users with personalised diet and fitness routines to help them achieve their weight loss and lifestyle objectives.

The programmes are delivered in a group environment, and the app includes a strong gamification element to keep users engaged and motivated. Welnes has aided over 15,000 people, who have together submitted 500,000 food photos and received over five million likes.

Flat6Labs is leading a $300,000 investment round for the firm, which also includes Samurai Incubate, UI Investments, and a collection of angel investors. It will be used to strengthen the Welnes team and plan the startup’s expansion to the GCC by 2023, after it closed in January.

“Our customers love the product, they come for the nutrition and workout plans and they stay for the community,” said Amr Saleh, co-founder and CEO of Welnes. “We have a very strong technical team who built a great product and we can’t wait to spread it out across all segments of the market.”

Flat6Labs’ chief investment officer, Dina el-Shenoufy, explained that the team and market potential were the most important factors in evaluating successful projects.

“Having invested alongside Amr before, we are quite confident of his ability to execute on capturing the nascent but strongly growing market of healthy living in the Middle East. Amr and his stellar team are developing the perfect platform to aid clients in achieving just that,” she said.
