$50K MEST Africa Challenge won by Ghanaian startup SAYeTECH

SAYeTECH, a Ghanaian startup that creates cutting-edge agricultural equipment suited to African conditions, won the MEST Africa Challenge this year and received US $50,000 in equity funding to expand its business.
In September, the Norwegian Embassy announced that the sixth edition of the MEST Africa Challenge was now accepting applications from the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), a pan-African software and entrepreneurship training program, seed fund, and incubator.
For the first time, this year’s challenge had a sector focus, giving agri-tech startups the chance to “Find Their Soil” by receiving crucial funding, mentorship, and support. Six finalists were chosen to present their solutions at a grand final that was held in Accra. The competition drew applicants from important West African markets, including Benin, Cape Verde, Côte D’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Mali, and Togo.
SAYeTECH secured $50,000 in equity funding to expand its operations after winning the grand prize for its creative agricultural equipment designed for African conditions.
“The funding will enable us to scale production and reduce delivery lead times, providing smallholder farmers with the equipment they need to increase productivity,” said founder Theodore Ohene-Botchway.
