7-figure seed funding secured by Egyptian agri-tech startup FreshSource

FreshSource, an Egyptian company that claims to be redefining the agricultural supply chain, has raised a seven-figure US dollar initial fundraising round in its goal to become the region’s largest fresh food distributor.

FreshSource is a B2B agri-supply chain platform founded by siblings Farah and Omar Emara in 2019. It uses technology to alter the way fresh items are procured, moved, and sold. The firm works with a variety of providers, including farms, to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to restaurants, hotels, and online merchants.

The firm is rapidly expanding, and it currently has large customers in 11 Egyptian cities. After receiving a seven-figure US dollar initial investment from 4DX Ventures and Wamda, the company’s expansion will accelerate. FreshSource plans to utilize the funds to expand its geographic reach in Egypt, as well as to improve its technological platform and expand its personnel. It is also looking to expand inside the MENA area.

“We are proud to have the confidence of some of the strongest investors in the region who share our vision of leveraging data and technology to streamline the inefficient agri supply chain. This new investment will allow us to continue to bring top talent on board and build the team we need to achieve our mission and accelerate our growth,” said Omar Emara.

“We’re really excited to partner with Farah and Omar. They’ve shown excellent knowledge of the market and ability to execute so far, and we think that they have the potential to build a really important business in the coming years. Great pricing, reliability, and quality is essential for the agriculture and food industry, and FreshSource is helping to deliver a service quality well ahead of anything else in the market,” said Peter Orth, co-founder and managing partner at 4DX Ventures.
