Sandeep Shankar is the Director of M/s ByteScape Labs India Pvt Ltd. It is an Industrial IoT and automation service provider and product developer. With a technically sound and professional team comprising of a mix of entrepreneurs, academicians, and engineers we are confident of addressing your needs that could help move your enterprise forward into the internet age. Sandeep was in conversation with Susparsha Gaikwad, Assistant Editor at incubees.com.
INCUBEES: Tell us about your product or services.
Sandeep: In the highly customizable environment that is IoT, we concentrate on being flexible enough to develop both products and services based on each customer’s unique and specific needs. For example, we have developed a product such as an IoT-enabled power screwdriver for a specific application and on the other hand, a connected environment that monitors multiple processing lines for a Diaper manufacturer.
INCUBEES: What makes your product/services unique and what competition do you see in India and globally?
Sandeep: As we provide high levels of customizability, it is easier to achieve lower redundancies because each design is a ground-up design that is developed with the intention of being future-proof, scalable, modular, and versatile. Also by keeping the data flow management in-house, protection of data and Intellectual Property is given utmost importance. The competitors offer solution packages that some customers are obliged to consume because they are not in a position to demand better-targeted services. This is because of the relatively recent entry of this technology in this part of the country. Larger corporations that generate large volumes of technical and business data tend to be drawn towards the tech companies that offer Data Analytics on a large scale. In India, the penetration of IoT or Big Data Analytics into the MSME market sector is minimal and in such areas, cost-effective solutions are better received.
INCUBEES: What are the challenges you see in the market at this point in time?
Sandeep: While, like most industries, we also face the challenges of the 3M’s namely money, man-power, and material, a more serious concern is the lack of awareness in the market about the specialized capabilities and unique strengths of this industry. This applies to customers as well as the workforce that needs to equip themselves with the multi-disciplinary tools of the trade as are required by the Industry. The scale of customization that is actually possible for each individual customer’s requirement is something not everyone is aware of. In this context, I refer specifically to the scale. The contrast is between lean and customizable as opposed to generic, bulky, and expensive.
INCUBEES: Tell us about your team and what inspires them?
Sandeep: Comprising of a small team of technocrats, academicians, and engineers, our inspiration is the potential to place our company as a competent player in the vast sphere that is Industrial and home or personal automation, both locally and globally. We place a strong emphasis on technical excellence through our continued efforts in research and development and by promoting local talent, we hope to fulfill our dream of self-reliance.
INCUBEES: Where do you see your product/service reaching in the next five-years?
Sandeep: Our current focus lies in the development of innovative solutions in the Healthcare and Industrial sector. There are some products/services that are in advanced stages of development that we hope to roll-out in the near future. We also wish to expand our network of local talent who play a vital role in keeping our system streamlined while still making available the best brains in the business.
INCUBEES: Do you have plans to raise funding to grow your business or allow your business to organically grow?
Sandeep: We strive to work with like-minded individuals who share our vision for the future of this industry.
INCUBEES: What are the challenges you face as a startup?
Sandeep: Since this domain is multi-disciplinary, access to a workforce that is proficient in multiple areas is certainly a limiting factor. Although we hope to overcome this through in-house training and also due to the various steps that are being made in the industry and we believe the best is yet to come.
