Grab to pay $600 M to acquire Delivery Hero’s Foodpanda Taiwan business

The companies announced on Monday that Grab, a super app with its headquarters in Singapore, will purchase Delivery Hero’s food delivery operations in Taiwan. Delivery Hero is well-known for its food delivery subsidiary, foodpanda.

As part of the company’s larger strategic review, which is backed by financial advisor JPMorgan Chase, the sale includes Delivery Hero’s foodpanda platform in Taiwan.

According to Grab’s Group CEO and Co-Founder Anthony Tan, the acquisition would be the company’s first expansion outside of Southeast Asia and its ninth market. After the deal is finalized, the company plans to incorporate Foodpanda’s operations into its platform.

According to Grab, the Taiwan company reported positive adjusted EBITDA prior to group cost allocations in 2025 and produced about $1.8 billion in gross merchandise value.

Grab will be present in 21 Taiwanese cities following the acquisition.

According to Delivery Hero, the goal of the divestment is to increase shareholder value and enhance capital allocation. “This divestment is an important first step in our ongoing strategic review,” stated Niklas Östberg, CEO and co-founder of Delivery Hero.

The $600 million deal is anticipated to close in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approvals. Delivery Hero intends to use the money for both general business needs and debt repayment.

Both businesses stated that they would carry on with business as usual until the deal was finalized. Customers, retailers, and delivery partners are anticipated to switch to Grab’s platform following closure, with a complete migration scheduled for early 2027.
