Accenture to eliminate 19,000 employees worldwide
Accenture, a leading provider of IT consulting and services globally, has revealed that over the next 18 months it will lay off 2.5%, or 19,000, of its workforce.
More than half of these layoffs will affect employees working in corporate operations that are not billable.
The firm stated in a statement that it still makes hiring decisions, particularly in support of its “strategic growth aspirations,” but that in order to save expenses in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2023, it had to simplify operations.
Among Accenture’s 738,000 employees worldwide, it is thought that more than 300,000 live in India.
Nevertheless, a spokesman from Accenture India declined to elaborate on how the country’s workforce will be impacted by the layoffs. “This may differ by market and by country, as a consequence of our different footprint and growth, and should not be taken as a figure applicable to all geographies,” the person said.
Accenture had just two days prior decided to purchase Flutura, a Bangalore-based industrial AI business.
