Activant Capital, a US VC firm opened Cape Town office to expand Research

Activant Capital, a US-based growth equity fund, has opened a new office in Cape Town, South Africa, to expand its research and due diligence skills.

Activant Capital has created a portfolio of over 35 prominent private and public firms across four continents, including Deliverr, Bolt, and Jokr, concentrating on startups that are changing the way we do traditional commerce and payments.

The business has offices in Greenwich, Connecticut, and in Berlin, Germany, which it opened in 2021 to expand its European presence. The company’s new Cape Town office, led by research director Robert Lamprecht, demonstrates Activant’s dedication to data, research, and due diligence.

The research team will create deep-dive market maps using Activant’s proprietary software platform Aristotle, detailing up-and-coming companies, competitor analysis, and macroeconomic trends to provide a comprehensive view of the three key sectors Activant focuses on fintech, e-commerce, and supply chain. The study will help Activant build a comprehensive database of industry trends, find new transactions, and assess strategic growth plans for its portfolio firms.

“We’re excited to put down roots in Cape Town. Activant has always been a thesis-led firm; by focusing intensely on a few key sectors – commerce infrastructure, fintech, and supply chain – we can find, invest in, and support the best founders and companies. Our Cape Town team allows us to double down on this thesis-first approach. The city offers a deep pool of talent, an amazing quality of life, and shares a time zone with Berlin, making it an ideal location for Activant as we expand,” said Activant founder and general partner Steve Sarracino.
