Airtel to cease music streaming app Wynk Music

Wynk Music, Bharti Airtel’s music streaming app, is shutting down. All staff members who work for the streaming service will be absorbed into the group.

Wynk Music will be shut down by Airtel in the coming months, according to PTI, which broke the story first. To the news agency, Airtel also confirmed the relocation.

The news of Wynk’s closure coincides with Airtel’s announcement of a partnership with Apple to give iPhone users access to Apple Music with exclusive deals.

In addition to using subscriptions and advertising, Airtel planned to use the creator economy to monetize its Wynk offerings last year. It seems that the plan was not successful.

Wynk offers a variety of subscription options, including premium and free versions with advertising. Airtel’s mobile and broadband packages are frequently combined with its premium plans.

There have always been a number of competitors in the Indian music streaming market, hoping to capitalize on the rapidly increasing usage of mobile internet in the nation. In addition, there are multinational corporations like Apple (Apple Music), Spotify, Amazon (Amazon Music), Times Group (Gaana), and Reliance (JioSaavn). (YouTube Music and YouTube).

Despite the existence of consumption, streaming is still a difficult concept to grasp. Pricing points and license rights are a couple of the major obstacles. Radio Mirchi recently purchased Gaana, which was owned by Times Internet, for a pittance of just Rs 25 lakh.

It is noteworthy to mention that Gaana and Airtel Wynk had discussions about a possible merger and acquisition, but those talks ultimately fell through.

Separately, YouTube raised the cost of its ad-free Premium plan today. From Rs 189 to Rs 299 a month, the family plan is now more expensive.
