Alipay-backed Chope laid-off 65 employees
According to sources, Chope, a Singapore-based restaurant management firm, let go of 65 workers in total last week, including 27 from outside of Asia and 38 within the city-state, according to the company’s founder and CEO, Arrif Ziaudeen.
Chope had 270 employees as of October, thus this indicates that it has reduced its workforce by around 24%.
According to Ziaudeen, “fast-changing economic conditions” have had an impact on the business recently.
According to the corporation, all teams had to reduce their processes, but those working on key initiatives took the most hit. Staff members will receive assistance in seeking other employment as well as a “departure package”.
Chope has operations in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand. Along with a reservation service, it also provides consumers with discounts and a software program for eateries, among other things.
To enable F&B companies to create their own small apps on Chope’s platform, Alipay strategically invested US $15 million in the firm in August.
