Alternative dairy startup 1.5 Degree raises $1 M Pre-series A funding from 35North Ventures

In a pre-Series A round headed by 35North Ventures’ India Discovery Fund II, alternative dairy startup 1.5 Degree has raised $1 million.

The money will be used to enter new cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Delhi, grow institutional partnerships, and scale manufacturing.

1.5 Degree, which is run by Natturz Bio Kontrol Pvt Ltd, specializes in the institutional food service market and provides frozen desserts and plant-based dairy products to corporate cafeterias, hotels, schools, and large dining establishments. The company collaborates with food service companies like Sodexo and Compass Group.

Plant-based milk, yogurt, tofu, cooking cream, gelatos, frozen desserts, smoothie yogurt bowls, and oat-milk-based drinks are all part of its product line. Additionally, the company supplies products through long-term B2B contracts and runs in-institution QSR formats.

1.5 Degree employs exclusive processing technology to solve flavor and taste issues that are frequently present in plant-based dairy products designed for Indian consumers. The company asserts that when compared to conventional dairy, its products result in noticeably lower emissions and water usage.

Nearly 80% of the brand’s income comes from institutional contracts, which provide consistent and recurring income through integrated supply chain operations and volume-based agreements. At the moment, it operates throughout Bengaluru, Pune, and the National Capital Region.

Despite maintaining its business-to-business focus, 1.5 Degree has begun to enter the direct-to-consumer market through high-end retail locations, experience centers, and cloud kitchens via food delivery platforms.
