ASME Idea Lab calling for social impact hardware innovators
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is currently taking submissions for the first round of its Idea Lab incubator, a new initiative that expands the scope of the ASME Innovation Showcase (ISHOW) hardware accelerator platform.
ASME, a not-for-profit professional organization founded in 1880, facilitates cooperation, information exchange, and skill development across all engineering disciplines while emphasizing the importance of engineers in society.
Individuals and teams that have identified an urgent social and/or environmental concern that they believe might be solved via hardware-led innovation are welcome to apply to Idea Lab. Applicants can submit an engineering issue statement or a proposed hardware solution that will have a beneficial impact on disadvantaged populations if developed and scaled.
Depending on their stage of development, technical skills, and mentorship requirements, an initial batch of Idea Lab applicants will be enrolled in the program for six to 18 months. They will get a variety of advantages, including design assistance, professional mentorship and evaluation, design services, design and engineering software and tools, and funds to pay prototype costs.
The application deadline is June 6.
