Astra-Digital led $100 M Series D funding secured by healthtech Halodoc

According to a statement, Astra Digital International, a recurring investor, led a $100 million series D funding round for Indonesia-based healthtech company Halodoc.

As a result, Astra has now invested a total of US $135 million in the business. The local conglomerate also served as the lead investor in Halodoc’s US $80 million series C round in 2021.

According to the media, Halodoc has raised at least US $258 million with the new funding.

GoTo and Sayurbox are just two of the well-known tech companies that Astra has backed. Astra’s president and director, Djony Bunarto Tjondro, stated that the company hopes to hasten the transformation of healthcare services in Indonesia by investing in Halodoc.

The 2016-launched Halodoc platform connects users to a network of over 20,000 doctors, 3,300 hospitals, and 4,900 pharmacies. By 2022, it was estimated to have amassed over 20 million active users each month.

Late last year, Tech in Asia reported that despite the platform’s ability to sell drugs online being prohibited by Indonesia’s food and drug monitoring agency (BPOM), at least 11 medications, including erectile dysfunction and antipsychotic medications, were still available.

BPOM asserted that even though the business had claimed it didn’t sell the drugs directly, Halodoc and other operators of electronic pharmaceutical systems are accountable for the distribution of illegal substances on their platforms.
