Bio-tech startup Utopia Therapeutics raised $1.5 M Seed funding from Whale Tank

Whale Tank has invested $1.5 million in seed funding for Utopia Therapeutics, a biotech company creating next-generation vaccines for chronic metabolic diseases.

According to a press release from Utopia Therapeutics, the money raised will be used to support the development of UT009 toward regulatory toxicology studies, IND-enabling milestones, and Phase I human clinical trials, as well as to expedite the preclinical development of the company’s lead immunotherapeutic candidate that targets obesity.

Utopia Therapeutics, which was co-founded in 2024 by Gopi Kadiyala and Uday Saxena, is dedicated to creating next-generation vaccines for chronic metabolic diseases, especially obesity. The startup wants to use cutting-edge scientific methods to provide first-in-class vaccines for obesity and associated metabolic diseases.

“Obesity is a global epidemic with limited long-term therapeutic options. UT009 represents a paradigm shift by differentiating it from current obesity drugs by addressing the root causes of weight gain. This investment enables us to move swiftly toward clinical translation,” said Uday Saxena and Gopi Kadiyala, co-founders of Utopia Therapeutics.

The Hyderabad-based company claims that UT009 is a novel vaccine that targets lipid-associated antigens to improve metabolic health and decrease fat accumulation. Based on GRAS-qualified, non-pharmaceutical applications, the company intends to expand and market Utopia’s UT018-based regenerative product line.
