By acquiring European payments platform Recharge, Singapore’s Coda expedites its global expansion

Coda, a Singapore-based digital content monetization company, revealed that it had finalized a deal to buy Recharge, an Amsterdam-based European prepaid payments platform.

According to a statement from Coda, the deal unites two successful regional leaders with scaled businesses, complementary skills, and a common goal of spearheading the next wave of global digital distribution and monetization.

By increasing its footprint in Europe and bolstering its direct-to-consumer capabilities, the acquisition expedites Coda’s growth beyond gaming and enhances its capacity to serve the larger digital content economy — across categories, customers, and continents.

Business-to-business (B2B) experience, deeper collaborations with leading digital content publishers, and a tested strategy for expansion in high-growth markets—particularly in Asia—are all benefits of the deal for Recharge.

A scaled global footprint would have been established from the start, as the combined company would have served over 200 million customers, processed over $1.75 billion in sales, and operated in up to 180 markets, according to 2024 figures.

“We’ve long admired what the Recharge team has built — a profitable, consumer-focused business with top global brands and real depth across Europe,” said Shane Happach, Chief Executive Officer of Coda.

He claims that this deal unites two prominent figures in regional commerce with unique but very complementary skills.

According to him, Coda concentrated on growing its business-to-business (B2B) capabilities while collaborating with the top digital publishers worldwide to optimize their earnings, especially in Southeast Asia’s complex and rapidly expanding markets.

“Recharge adds a powerful direct-to-consumer engine, deep prepaid expertise, and strong brand equity across Europe. Most importantly, we’re bringing together two teams that share the same values: ambition, collaboration, and commercial sharpness,

“That gives us a strong foundation to lead the next chapter in global digital content distribution and monetization,” he added.

The company has concentrated on developing the technology platform that links and expands the prepaid payments ecosystem, allowing smooth transactions between consumers, goods, and brands through intelligent, data-driven infrastructure, according to Günther Vogelpoel, CEO of Recharge.

He claims that the company has been able to grow into a reputable and successful enterprise throughout Europe and beyond thanks to this focus and a driven workforce that constantly works with accuracy and speed.
