East Ventures led US $3.8 M raised by Singapore’s Smarter Health

Smarter Health, located in Singapore, has raised SG $5.15 million (US $3.8 million) in a Series A round-headed by East Ventures.

Orbit Malaysia, Citrine Capital, HMI Group, and Emtek were also involved in the investment.

According to a news release, the cash will be used largely for product development and market expansion in Southeast Asia.

Smarter Health is a single platform that supports safe data transfers between insurers, healthcare providers, and patients throughout the full healthcare experience, founded by Liaw Yit Ming (CEO) and Dr Lee Hong Huei (COO). This enables the use of data to influence decision-making for patients and increase the accuracy and speed of claims processing.

In Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, the firm claims to have gained a lot of traction.

Willson Cuaca, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of East Ventures, said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has forced insurers and healthcare providers to reflect and re-strategise on their operations, catalysing digital transformation. Smarter Health is here to make healthcare accessible, affordable, and accountable by providing an AI-powered interoperable platform.”

East Ventures is a sector-agnostic VC company that was the first to invest in Tokopedia and Traveloka, two Indonesian startups. Ruangguru, Warung Pintar, Kudo (acquired by Grab), Loket (acquired by Gojek), Tech in Asia, Xendit, IDN Media, MokaPOS (bought by Gojek), ShopBack, KoinWorks, Waresix, and Sociolla are among the other significant startups in the portfolio.

Kejora Capital and Malaysia’s Sunway Group jointly manage Orbit Malaysia, a series A regional fund. It is also included in Mavcap Malaysia’s fund portfolio.

Citrine Capital is a values-driven investing business dedicated to global sustainability.

HMI Group is a Singapore-based private healthcare provider with operations in Malaysia and Indonesia. In Malaysia, it owns and runs two tertiary hospitals. The company has a healthcare training centre, a 25-location, primary care clinic chain, and a private one-stop ambulatory care centre in Singapore.
