Foodtech startup Yumlane Pizza acquired by cloud kitchen CureFoods

Yumlane, a foodtech startup, has been acquired by cloud kitchen company CureFoods. Yumlane intends to leverage CureFoods’ extensive network to enhance its in-house pizza technology through this acquisition.

Curefoods obtained the franchise rights for Yumlane Pizza’s cloud kitchen in the south Indian market in 2021, and in 2022, it acquired a 10% stake in the business. Yumlane has been fully acquired by Curefoods in order to expand its distribution and reach.

In March 2016, Yumlane was established by Hitesh Ahuja, Rueben Ghosh, and Rahul Kumar. They developed a pizza-specific proprietary technology stack and ventured into cloud kitchen brand Yumlane Pizza as well as B2B business.

Yumlane asserts that it has extended its distribution network throughout 15 Indian cities in the B2B vertical. The companies Curefoods, Barbeque Nation, Frozen Bottle, and 7-11 are among its clientele.

Curefoods is the parent company of EatFit, Yumlane, CakeZone, Masalabox, and Aligarh House Biryani. It operates more than 100 kitchens in 12 Indian cities. Curefoods raised Rs 300 crore ($36.5 million) in April of this year through an equity and debt round headed by Three State Ventures, Binny Bansal’s fund.

The company announced last year that it was merging with Mumbai-based Maverix and acquiring the franchise rights of US-based pizza chain Sbarro for southern India, in addition to acquiring the majority stake in the milkshake brand Frozen Bottle. As of right now, Curefoods has about 25 brands in its portfolio.

Curefoods’ direct rivals include a variety of independent brands like Biryani Blues and Biryani by Kilo, while its main rivals are the Coatue-backed Rebel Foods and Box8.
