Genexis Biotech raises Rs 4 Cr Seed funding from GVFL

Genexis Biotech, a biomanufacturing firm based in Vadodara, has raised Rs 4 crore in a seed fundraising round headed by GVFL, with Benzai10 also participating.

The money raised will be utilized to expand the capacity of bioreactors, construct infrastructure for downstream processing, introduce novel recombinant proteins and enzymes, and improve compliance, sales, and distribution.

Using precise fermentation, Genexis Biotech creates recombinant proteins devoid of animal origin for use in the biopharma, food-tech, and cell culture industries. The startup is establishing a GMP-compliant unit and runs a certified Class 10,000 facility.

In addition to introducing recombinant peptidases including amino peptidase and enterokinase, it also intends to introduce recombinant albumin and transferrin.

Genexis negotiated an MOU with the Gujarat government, formed alliances with biotech and pharmaceutical companies, and received orders from clients for different protein formulations in the last 12 months. It presented its portfolio at Global Bio-India 2024 and plans to work with CDMOs, academic labs, and biopharma companies in addition to developing encapsulated formulations for the cosmetics industry and breaking into the regulated biotech export market.

The goal of Genexis Biotech is to produce biomolecules in an ethical and scalable manner. As part of its investment thesis across deeptech and biotech innovation, GVFL has supported the business.
