GSMA Climate Resilience Fund 2.0 opens applications for African startups
Startups from Africa are encouraged to submit an application to the GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation 2.0, which aims to pilot and scale up digital technology innovations that have a positive socioeconomic and environmental impact in regions with communities most vulnerable to current or future climate risks.
The GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation 2.0 was established in collaboration with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and it follows a successful first edition last year in which eight African startups received grants.
Startups, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), or social enterprises can apply for the fund if they are located in Africa, South and Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, the Caribbean, and a few countries in Europe and Latin America. It looks for ways to improve climate change adaptation and resilience using digital technology, particularly mobile.
The full support package for selected organizations will include grant funding ranging from GBP100,000 ($125,000) to GBP250,000 ($200,000); specialized technical assistance; facilitation of connections with mobile operators and public sector organizations; peer learning opportunities; and the chance to raise their visibility to potential investors and partners through GSMA’s events, publications, and social media.
The deadline for submissions is May 16.
