Inaugural Africa Tech Summit Awards selected 55 finalists

For the first-ever Africa Tech Summit Awards, which honor people and businesses influencing the continent’s technology industry, fifty-five finalists have been chosen.

The launch of the Africa Tech Summit Awards, a new platform created to honor the most creative and influential tech solutions, businesses, and leaders throughout Africa, was covered by the media in November.

The top innovators, business executives, and entrepreneurs from the continent will come together to explore, network, and invest in African technology at the annual Africa Tech Summit in Nairobi on February 12 to announce the winners.

From a total of more than 300 applications, 55 finalists have been chosen so far in 11 sector categories and two individual categories. A group of impartial judges assessed each application according to its impact, scalability, innovation, and applicability to the African market.

AFEX (Nigeria), ChipChip (Ethiopia), Mazao AgClimate Limited (Tanzania), Keep it Cool (Kenya), and Winich Farms (Nigeria) are the finalists in the Agri-tech category. Cassava Technologies (South Africa), Chpter (Kenya), NextAV (Tunisia), Tawi Fresh (Kenya), and ToumAI Analytics (Morocco) are the finalists in the AI category.

In the Climate Tech category, the finalists are Afrilogic Solutions (Ghana), Innovex (U) Ltd (Uganda), Instollar Technologies (Nigeria), Sabi (Nigeria), and Takazuri (Kenya); in the Cross Border Payments category, the finalists are AZA Finance (Kenya), Flutterwave (Nigeria), Grey (Nigeria), WeWire (Nigeria), and Yellow Card (South Africa).

The startups chosen in the Ed-Tech category are Cassava Technologies (South Africa), DirectEd Development (Kenya), Hermplify (Nigeria), Ikusasa Technology Solutions (South Africa), and Laboussole (Cameroon). The finalists in the Digital Commerce category are OmniRetail (Nigeria), Sendmercury (Nigeria), SwiftVEE (South Africa), Tawi Fresh (Kenya), and Tola (Ireland).

The finalists in the FemTech category are Babysteps (Kenya), Hermplify (Nigeria), Mara Scientific (Uganda), My Pregnancy Journey (South Africa), and Sanicle Digital Health (United States). The enterprise finalists are Andela (United States), Beacon Power Services (Nigeria), Froid Energy Ltd (Kenya), Incentro Africa (Kenya), and Smile ID (Nigeria).

Peach Payments (South Africa), Valu (Eqypt), Yellow Card (South Africa), Flow (Uganda), and HUB2 (Mauritius) are the fintech finalists. Antara Health (Kenya), ION Kenya (Kenya), OneHealth (Nigeria), Remedial Health (Nigeria), and Zuri Health (Kenya) are the health-tech ones.

ICP Hub in Kenya, Investa Farm in Kenya, MiniPay in Nigeria, Sabi in Nigeria, and Yellow Card in South Africa are the Web3 finalists.

Tickets to the Africa Tech Summit in Nairobi and industry recognition will be awarded to all finalists. A physical Africa Tech Summit Award will be given to the winners.
