Israeli Embassy to India announces winners of the startup programme

In collaboration with TiE Chandigarh, The Israeli Embassy to India launched a 3-month startup programme in the sustainability sector in order to upscale the business and enhance the skills. TiE is a nonprofit community who have entrepreneurs and communities that work with them globally. It also marked an important date in diplomatic relations as India and Israel have completed 30 years of diplomacy.

A total of 100 startups participated in the three-month startup mentorship programme which was hosted by the Embassy of Israel in Chandigarh, Sector 17 on 8th Dec. Out of these 100 startups across India five startups successfully reached the final round. The chosen 5 startups presented their idea before the Israel Ambassador to India Naor Gilon.

The winner of the startup programme was Priyangshu from Assam. His startup is focused on producing mushrooms bio-fortified with vitamin D, also producing other naturally fortified products with vitamin D and the runner-up was Paramveer Singh of Ropar who has a firm focusing on developing a sustainable aquaculture oxygen pressure-based hatchery. The five startups who competed in the final round on 8th Dec were chosen over a three-month period.

The purpose to launch this startup programme is to create awareness and to show the importance of sustainability in the tech sector. A statement made by the officials said “the project is aimed at finding aspiring startups in the field of sustainability and mentoring them through workshops and seminars held by Israeli and Indian entrepreneurs and other experts.” The startup programme was in collaboration with TIE Chandigarh.

Ambassador Naor Gilon while addressing the gathering said, “Israel and India are natural partners. Our governments continue to cooperate and support the vibrant startup scene in both countries. Our industries and private sectors have been sharing their experiences and working on the ground together. I encourage people from both countries to come together, grow together and merge their innovative ideas and technological capabilities to reach new heights.”
