Karnataka to build six new ‘high-tech’ cities & a ‘startup park’

During the inaugural speech at the 25th edition of Bangalore tech summit Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that Karnataka will build six new high-tech cities and a startup park near Bangalore which will be situated close to the airport. The six high-tech cities will be coming up near Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Bengaluru. The startup park will focus on being tech-driven. During the Global Investors Meet, 90% of funding was drawn toward Bangaluru.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said “The city near Bengaluru will be very close to the airport and will be well-planned and will have the best universities and R&D centers,” The elaborate designs and plans for the new cities will be revealed in another six months. The announcement of the startup park and six high-tech cities was made after Karnataka Startup Vision Group Chairman Prashanth Prakash and Accel partner predicted that about 25 unicorns out of 100 were expected to file for public listing on the stock market.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also touched upon ‘sustainable innovation’ and the kind of tech that is available to us. He said “the globe is shrinking. Global life is reducing year by year. Resources are dwindling second by second. It is alarming” further adding that the current pace of growth is often seen as “stealing from the future. Hence, whatever technology and whatever innovations there are, their goal should be to conserve for the future, connect so that global thinking starts to save this planet, and break down the digital divide happening across the world.”

He appealed to innovators to work on sustainable solutions. The aim is also to achieve eco-friendly tech and innovations. PM Modi also presented his views through a recorded message where he welcomed the investors. He said, “India is no more a place known for red tape, but is now known for the red carpet for investment.”

“In India, technology is a force of equality and empowerment…India is using tech as a weapon in the war against poverty,” he added.
