Latest HiiL Innovating Justice Challenge opens applications

The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) has announced the opening of submissions for its most recent Innovating Justice Challenge, which is looking for ideas that aim to avoid or address a justice issue for many people, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises.

In order to increase the number of people who have access to justice, HiiL is looking for the next generation of bright justice innovators from all across Africa and the Middle East, notably from Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Tunisia.

This is a chance for high-growth companies that are developing scalable, cutting-edge, and tech-focused solutions for challenges like crime, fraud, eviction, rental problems, theft, employment concerns, and legal help for SMEs, and for people.

It aims to find people-centered solutions that prevent or address justice issues, have a working product with some traction, a solid team, a revenue model, and the desire to expand beyond the immediate target market.

Startups who are chosen get EUR10,000 (US $11,000) in non-equity investment, training from industry experts, coaching, mentorship, and access to HiiL’s worldwide network of justice leaders, legal tech organisations, and top researchers. The opportunity to win up to EUR20,000 (US $22,000) during demo day is another benefit, along with exposure on a global scale and prospective investment opportunities.

The application period is open until March 31. The programme will start in June and end with a demo day in February 2024.
