Local SaaS company Waffle acquired by Ghanaian e-health startup Rivia

The acquisition of Waffle, a Ghanaian SaaS company that specializes in software for small and medium-sized businesses, has been announced by Rivia, an e-health startup based in Ghana that works with clinics to improve service quality in the healthcare sector.

Launched in January, Rivia collaborates with clinics to increase patient service quality and reach a wider clientele by providing all-encompassing support in customer acquisition, financing, and technology.

In addition to offering loans to partner clinics for improving their physical infrastructure and expanding their inventory, Rivia is currently operating in Ghana with plans to expand to other parts of West and East Africa. The hospital management system that Rivia offers is designed to handle patient appointments and bookings, records, payment collection, lab, pharmacy, and related administrative tasks.

Waffle, a Ghanaian SaaS company that creates inventory and hospital management software, has now been acquired by the startup. Under the Rivia brand (recently renamed as RiviaOS), Waffle will now continue to develop its software. Victor Nara, the creator of Waffle, has joined Rivia as its chief technology officer.

Serving as a healthcare-as-a-service (HaaS) platform, RiviaOS gives medical professionals access to features like scheduling appointments, booking engines, services storefronts, video consultations, e-pharmacy, e-lab, vitals capture, billing, expense, revenue, and inventory management. On-demand, affordable AI-powered health diagnosis is another service provided by the platform.

By acquiring Waffle, Rivia hopes to expedite the digitization of its primary care clinic network and optimize business processes.

“Victor is a brilliant entrepreneur and engineer. I was impressed by his insights on life, business, and technology, and a deal was a natural order,” said Rivia CEO Isidore Kpotufe.

“I am very proud of what Waffle has achieved over the years,” said Nara. “When I was presented with the opportunity to join forces with Rivia – a company that shares similar vision, values, and culture – it was a no-brainer.”
