Malaysian agritech startup BoomGrow received Pre-series A funding from VC firm Gobi Partners

The latest strategic investment by Asia-focused venture capital firm Gobi Partners into Malaysian agritech startup BoomGrow’s Pre-Series A Funding Round demonstrates the firm’s dedication to Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG)-friendly investments.

According to a statement released by the partners on Monday, the investment is made through the Gobi Dana Impak Ventures (GDIV) fund, which is supported by Khazanah Nasional Berhad.

BoomGrow plans to broaden its operations throughout Southeast Asia with the most recent round of funding.

BoomGrow runs machine farms in Malaysia, and they are currently growing.

They recently relocated to Manila, Philippines, as a tactical response to the city’s dense population and rising demand for wholesome, fresh produce.

SME Corp, an American venture capital firm, provided the initial grant funding, and Big Sky Capital, an angel investment firm, provided the venture capital funding.

“We are excited to be part of the Khazanah and Gobi family. BoomGrow is enabling access to better- quality fresh food by focusing on our ESG principles,

“Our commercial-scale solutions are backed by a data-driven approach which is key to resilience and agile decision-making,” BoomGrow Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Murali Krishnamurthy said.

“Ultimately, we are unlocking the future of food whilst having a transformative impact on the environment and our communities,

“It’s great to see investor alignment with our vision which will enable us to execute our growth plans across Southeast Asia,” he said.

BoomGrow, which was founded by a dynamic trio of women and men, focuses on densely populated urban areas where traditional farming is scarce and is hampered by lengthy supply chains in an effort to make healthy, wholesome food accessible.

This mission is led by the organization’s co-founders, Murali Krishnamurthy (who has a background in accounting and finance), Dr. Jay Desan (an advisor with extensive experience in ESG), and Shan Palani (a designer and architect).

BoomGrow has been making waves internationally with its cutting-edge method of growing fresh produce since its establishment in 2015.
