Microsoft announced $1.5 B investment in G42’s minority stake
In order to co-innovate and provide cutting-edge AI solutions with Microsoft Azure for a variety of industries and markets throughout the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, Microsoft announced a strategic investment in G42, a top AI company in the United Arab Emirates.
The long-standing cooperation and mutual synergies between the two companies will be strengthened when Microsoft invests $1.5 billion in G42 for a minority stake in the business. Brad Smith, Microsoft Vice Chair and President, will also join G42’s board of directors. The agreement greatly expands G42’s strategy of providing generative AI and next-generation infrastructure and services for a variety of clients across financial services, healthcare, energy, government, and education. This is due to the depth and unique AI capabilities of the Microsoft Cloud.
With a first-of-its-kind binding agreement to apply best practices from around the world to ensure the safe, reliable, and responsible development and deployment of AI, the commercial partnership is supported by guarantees given to the governments of the United States and the United Arab Emirates. G42 and Microsoft will collaborate closely to improve the international infrastructure they share’s security and compliance framework. Both businesses will proceed with the understanding that they will abide by laws and regulations pertaining to business integrity, security, responsible AI, and both domestic and international trade.
A comprehensive intergovernmental assurance agreement between G42 and Microsoft, which was created in close collaboration with the governments of the United States and the United Arab Emirates, governs the work on these subjects.
G42’s faith in and dedication to Microsoft’s cloud platform forms the basis of this partnership. As a sign of its confidence in Microsoft as its preferred partner to improve services and provide value-added solutions to its clients, G42 will increase its current commitment to implementing Microsoft Cloud offerings. Through this partnership, G42 will be able to take advantage of industry-leading performance, scalability, and security capabilities by moving its data platform and other critical technology infrastructure to Microsoft Azure.
The AI product development that G42 will be able to create and scale through the migration to Azure will also enable faster delivery times for its customers worldwide. We’re excited to work together to advance fair growth in AI worldwide and accelerate the transformation of AI in emerging markets.
