Global investment firm KKR has signed definitive agreements to acquire a minority stake in BookMyShow, the Indian ticketing and live entertainment platform, for an undisclosed amount.
KKR’s investment will support BookMyShow’s live entertainment business and expansion across India, the company said in a press release. It plans to increase its presence in live events and build its technology and entertainment capabilities.
BookMyShow has expanded from an online movie ticketing platform into an entertainment company covering movies, live events and experiences. Its live entertainment arm, BookMyShow Live, manages talent, event production, promotions, partnerships and audience development.
BookMyShow uses more than 7,000 movie theaters and operates in 700 Indian towns and cities. Events like Lollapalooza India, U2’s The Joshua Tree Tour, NBA games in India, Disney’s Aladdin, and concerts like Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Travis Scott, and Justin Bieber are all part of its live entertainment portfolio.
Ashish Hemrajani launched BookMyShow, which is supported by investors such as Network18, Accel, Elevation Capital, Stripes Group, and TPG. Additionally, the business has operations in Sri Lanka, the UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
