MyCaptain acquired by Imarticus Learning for Rs 50 Cr

Imarticus Learning, a professional education company, has made its fourth acquisition in the last four years when it paid Rs 50 crore (roughly $6 million) to acquire edtech startup MyCaptain. With this calculated move, Imarticus Learning’s workforce now stands at over 850, and a group of former founders join the company, adding entrepreneurial experience to its senior leadership.

MyCaptain, an edtech platform founded in 2016 by Mohammed Zeeshan, Sameer Ramesh, and Ruhan Naqash, enables people to discover and pursue careers that are driven by their passions. In addition to providing mentorship and advice in creative and entrepreneurial fields, it links students with young achievers in a variety of career paths.

With 60% of its users originating from tier 2 and tier 3 cities and 80% of its users coming from creative and entrepreneurial fields, MyCaptain has made a significant impact on more than 1,500 campuses. Ankur Capital, Firstport Ventures, Inflection Point Ventures, and the Singapore Angel Network are among the investors who have contributed $4.7 million to the startup.

According to MyCaptain, it generated Rs 27 crore in revenue with an EBITDA breakeven point last year.

Through the acquisition, Imarticus Learning will be able to offer MyCaptain’s employability bootcamps in cutting-edge disciplines like design, content, and digital marketing across its more than 20 classroom locations in more than 16 cities.

This fits in with Imarticus’s three-year plan to reach five million learners and increase its presence in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

Hero Group’s training division, Hero Mindmine, was acquired by Imarticus in April 2023, along with the social learning platform Eckovation in 2021 and the game-based learning platform StratOnBoard in 2022.

Commenting on the acquisition, Nikhil Barshikar, Founder and CEO of Imarticus Learning, said, “While previous acquisitions have helped us diversify our portfolio and address evolving learner needs, with MyCaptain, we aim to deepen accessibility in non-tech career domains and significantly expand our reach in tier 2+ cities.”
