Nigerian e-health startup MDaaS Global raised $3 M Pre-Series A funding to advance tech

A US $3 million Pre-Series A round of funding has been raised by Nigerian e-health startup MDaaS Global, which runs a rapidly expanding healthcare network, to advance the development of its proprietary technology platform, BeaconOS.

MDaaS Global was established in 2017 and has since grown to 17 sites in 10 states in Nigeria, starting with the opening of its first diagnostic clinic for underprivileged communities. It currently supports over 1,300 healthcare facilities, businesses, and HMOs that depend on its BeaconHealth platform for their diagnostic needs. It has served over 275,000 patients to date through a combination of its distributed care network and technological backbone.

One of the company’s original institutional investors, Ventures Platform, co-led the US $3 million Pre-Series A funding round, which was also supported by follow-on investor Newtown Partners and Aruwa Capital Management. With this fresh round of funding, MDaaS Global has invested a total of US $6.8 million.

With the help of a combination of company-owned and affiliate clinics, the company plans to extend its healthcare network throughout all 36 states of Nigeria in addition to developing its in-house technology platform, BeaconOS, which it introduced last year. MDaaS Global’s goal of democratizing access to top-notch diagnostics and healthcare services throughout the continent is one step closer with this calculated move.

The most recent innovation from the company, BeaconOS, functions as the “hardware” or digital spine of MDaaS Global’s healthcare network. It connects and optimizes the company’s physical clinics. It functions similarly to an operating system on a computer. A suite of applications that are built on top of BeaconOS are intended to improve the way that healthcare is delivered at BeaconHealth clinics and to digitally interface with the company’s wide range of partner organizations.

“Years of operating within Nigeria’s healthcare system have given us a deep understanding of its challenges and points of friction. At MDaaS Global, we’re leveraging this experience to develop technology uniquely tailored to the African healthcare experience. BeaconOS isn’t just about solving our own challenges; it’s empowering our patients and partners with solutions customised to their needs and revolutionising healthcare delivery across Africa,” said CEO Oluwasoga Oni.

With this funding infusion, the business will create fresh BeaconOS platform apps that address pressing problems in the healthcare sector.

Aruwa Capital Management’s founder and managing partner, Adesuwa Okunbo Rhodes, expressed her excitement about collaborating with MDaaS Global to transform healthcare delivery in Africa.
