Olectra secures 100 EV buses order from APSRTC

Olectra Greentech Limited (Olectra) and Evey Trans Private Limited (EVEY), India’s electric mobility leader and pioneer in electric bus manufacture, got a letter of recognition from the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). The order is for 100 E-buses to be delivered under the Government of India’s FAME-II initiative. The 100 E-buses will be delivered on a 12-year Gross Cost Contract (GCC)/OPEX basis. This deal is worth around Rs.140 crores. The buses will be supplied over a 12-month period.

The buses will be maintained by Olectra during the contract length. The Alipiri (Tirupathi) Depot will receive these buses. 50 buses will run on the Tirumala-Tirupathi Ghat, and the rest would run as intercity buses to Nellore, Kadapa, and Madanapalle. Olectra’s overall order book currently stands at roughly 1,450 buses, thanks to this latest order.

Mr KV Pradeep, Chairman and Managing Director, Olectra Greentech Limited, said, “We are blessed and happy to serve the devotees travelling to visit Lord Sri Venkateshwara on the Tirumala-Tirupati Ghat Road. Olectra is proud to operate its state-of-the-art electric buses in one more state. Our buses also contribute to preserving the rich ecology of Sheshachala forest and the Tirumala hills, Andhra Pradesh. Olectra Greentech committed to its efforts to reduce pollution levels through its efficient Electric Public Transport System. We are sure that our 100 buses will be successful in the state like in other states. Our E-buses have proved their reliability and efficiency. They are successfully running in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Surat, Dehradun, Silvassa, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala.”

Andhra Pradesh’s inhabitants will now be able to ride in Zero Emission and Noiseless Electric Buses from Olectra Greentech Limited, a key participant in India’s Electric Public Transportation System, in a first-of-its-kind initiative.

The seating capacity of these 09-meter air-conditioned buses is 35+D. The air suspension is electrically regulated for a smooth ride. The buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, an emergency button, and USB sockets for each seat to enhance commuter safety. Based on traffic and passenger load circumstances, the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery placed in the bus allows it to drive roughly 180 kilometres on a single charge.

Olectra Electric buses have travelled over 4 million kilometres on Indian roadways, reducing CO2 emissions by 35,700 tonnes, which would have necessitated the planting of around 2 crore trees. To far, Olectra has supplied approximately 400 buses to several states. The Olectra bus set a world record by travelling from Manali to Rohtang Pass and was included in the Limca Book of Records.
