Over 14k new companies registered in February, Maharashtra topped the list

According to statistics from the Corporate Affairs Ministry, 14,608 businesses were formed in February 2022, including 807 one-person companies (OPCs) with a total authorised capital of Rs 4,254 crore. A total of 12,182 businesses were established under the Companies Act of 2013 in the month of January this year. Growing economic activity across many sectors, including agriculture, diversification by existing enterprises, and risk appetite among the youth to begin new initiatives, all contribute to the increase in company registrations. With the latest additions, the total number of active businesses in the nation now stands at 14,26,495. Maharashtra had the newest business registrations (2,791) in February 2022, followed by Uttar Pradesh (1,400) and Delhi (1,300). (1,362).

“Business Services topped the economic activity-wise classification (3,770) of newly registered companies,” said Ministry of Corporate Affairs in its monthly bulletin.

There were 2,66,605 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) registered as of February 28, 2022, with 2,39,054 of them active.

“During February 2022, 4,058 new LLPs were incorporated with a total contribution of Rs 436.62 crore,” the bulletin said.

Meanwhile, almost 58,000 businesses have been discovered and are being struck off the register, with 2,366 firms receiving ‘dormant’ status under Section 455 of the Companies Act.

“There are 14,26,495 active companies including 2,55,556 companies which were incorporated within the preceding 18 months (not due for Annual Statutory Filings),” the Ministry said.
