P2P learning platform launched by Nigerian ed-tech startup Stranerd
Stranerd, a Nigerian company, has established a peer-to-peer learning platform where students may ask and answer homework-related questions. The service is meant to allow the sharpest students to help those who may be less talented in specific areas.
Stranerd began as an Instagram page in 2018, but it was only this year that it became a distinct digital product. The company employs a gamification methodology to motivate students to study by awarding them with coins and rising them to higher rankings based on how frequently they engage with the site, either by asking or answering questions.
“Our goal is to build the largest community of students where collaboration and innovation thrive in order to create opportunities for the student to function at the highest level possible and bring the most value to the student community. We intend to do this by fostering peer-peer learning by giving students the tools to collaborate and solve their problems,” said Jeremiah Godwin, who co-founded Stranerd alongside Timmy Salami.
As the page expanded and referrals flowed in, running the Instagram page, which uploaded educational content and offered academic support to kids from all over the world, highlighted the importance of such a platform.
As a result, Stranerd was born this year, with high early uptake.
“From our social media experience, we have seen that students can actually help other students and this is even far quicker and more conducive. This is why we’re convinced that launching this website is a move in the right direction,” said Godwin.
Stranerd, which is self-funded and self-sustaining, makes money by giving tutorial services and assignment aid to kids via social media direct messaging.
