Piyush Goyal urged business community to adopt sustainable & green approach

Piyush Goyal, the union minister of commerce, urged the corporate sector to embrace sustainable and environmentally friendly business practises.

In his speech to the Business 20 (B20) Inception Meeting, the official G20 discussion forum with the international business community in Gandhinagar, he urged attendees to utilise both the B20 and G20 forums to consider how we can all work together to advance a sustainable and fair future agenda.

Goyal said, “Through the theme of G20 in India- ‘one earth one family one future’ – we wished to inspire the world to care for each other, to have a greater degree of dialogue and greater concern for the planet and the future of our children”.

The Minister emphasised how India has consistently supported sustainable development.

He said that when it came to adopting and carrying out environmental objectives, India ranked among the top 5 nations in the world.

“India regularly files UNFCCC reports and has already exceeded its goal for 2030, of having a 40 percent share of renewable energy in its installed capacity in 2021. India takes each sustainable development goal very seriously,” he said.

While the rest of the world was concerned about how India would handle the epidemic, Goyal observed that the country had transformed that concern into hope and emerged as a bright point in the international economy.

He asserted that there is currently no market in the world with the potential to grow as rapidly as India, and he urged both Indian and foreign businesses to use India as a base to serve the rest of the world. India hopes to drive the global economy through partnerships and cooperation amid competition.

In his opinion, India provided the following: the rule of law; dynamic and strong leadership; open government policies; no opaque models; and no unadvertised subsidies.

“By August, we would have a robust framework for B20 and we succeed in taking a message of responsibility, care, and concern, a message of togetherness and oneness, a message that we will all work together for a better future for our children, from India to the world,” Goyal said.

From December 1, 2022, India presided over the G20.

To create consensus-based policy proposals for the G20, the B20 will function through 7 Task Forces and 2 Action Councils.
