Poland-based salmon company Koral acquired by Captain Fresh

Captain Fresh, a seafood supply chain company, has purchased Koral, a Polish manufacturer and distributor of branded salmon products. The founder of the company, Boguslaw Kowalski, and Abris Capital Partners, a private equity firm specializing in ESG transformation, have signed the contract with Captain Fresh.

The Polish Antimonopoly Office and additional regulatory approvals are pending for the transaction. Before this, Captain Fresh had purchased Senecrus, a French distributor and shrimp cooker, and CenSea, an American importer of frozen seafood.

The company, situated in Bengaluru, has announced that Justyna Frankowska and Boguslaw Kowalski will spearhead its global salmon strategy.

Market research projects that the salmon market will be worth $33.5 billion by 2024.

Producing smoked salmon goods under the SuperFish brand, Koral sells its products in both domestic and foreign markets. The company processes 120 tons of fish a day on 26 production lines.

Captain Fresh is an online B2B platform that sells seafood products. It was founded in 2020 by Utham Gowda. Trade in seafood is available on the platform, including shrimp, lobster, salmon, tuna, crab, and more. It obtains, prepares, and distributes goods for retailers. Both the iOS and Android operating systems support its mobile application.

Major backers of Fresh Captain include Matrix Partners India, Accel, SBI Holdings, Ankur Capital, Tiger Global Management, Prosus Ventures, British International Investment, and Incubate Fund. So far, it has raised $165 million. At a revenue run rate of $650 to $700 million, the company is predicted to end the current fiscal year.
