Rehabilitating war veterans/ disabled soldiers: Veer Nari Shakti Resettlement Foundation
Several cross fires incidents have been reported in recent times which led to the suffering of many families and growing anger among the masses. There was also a trend of calling the martyrs ‘killed’ by certain media houses like NDTV, the same was pointed out as well by the Army Headquarters, issuing an official letter in order to rectify the same. Soldiers who give their lives for the country can’t be referred to as ‘’killed in action’’ but as martyrs or VeerGati. As we keep hearing in the news about soldiers being martyred on the line of duty, we don’t realize what the families go through, there are some soldiers who lose their lives and some who remain injured/disabled for life. These attacks on the forces have shocked the nation, the Pulwama attack 2019, the conflicts at the border where India has lost its soldiers, recently seven soldiers lost their lives and 19 got injured as a vehicle in Ladakh fell into a river, Col Viplav Tripathi, his wife and son along with 4 soldiers were ambushed by terrorists in Manipur and lost their lives and many more such incidents have happened.
We as citizens do pay them tributes but the families of these soldiers remain devastated waiting for their sons and daughters to come home; receiving news of them laying down their lives for the country leaves them in shock and also weak financially. The sacrifice of these soldiers, who without giving second thought fight for the country however it has often been seen that their families who end up struggling after some retire and some are disabled also do not have it easy. To help the families of disabled or martyred soldiers organizations/NGOs started to come up where they focused and stepped up into helping the veterans and their families by rehabilitating them post-war, extending help to the families after they lose the soldier in their house. The aim is to improve the lives of the soldiers as well as their families, many NGOs have taken it upon themselves to build a facility for these Bravehearts, like the Veer Nari Shakti foundation.
