SA breakdown management startup RNR raised $640k funding for expansion
In order to expand locally and throughout Southern Africa, the breakdown management startup RNR, based in South Africa, has raised ZAR12 million (US $640,000) in funding.
RNR, or “Right Now Reponse,” is an on-demand breakdown management and analytics platform that was established in 2019 by Wayne and Michelle Witherspoon. The company offers truck fleet managers and truck OEMs breakdown support through its nationwide network of certified mechanics, electricians, and repair centers, utilizing technology to balance supply and demand.
RNR completes 70% of repairs on the roadside, saving money on towing and freight delays, in addition to significantly improving response times by deploying its nearest subcontractor. Clients can access live location tracking and tracing from acceptance to roadside and workshop repair, as well as 24/7 breakdown visibility through the app and web portal.
The South African venture capital firm HAVAÍC led the startup’s February 2023 funding round, which brought in ZAR10 million (US $555,000). This investor is now leading the company’s latest round, which has brought in ZAR12 million (US $640,000).
RNR’s revenue has increased by 86% and the number of monthly breakdowns handled by its platform has increased by 87% in the last 12 months. In Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana, the startup has also broadened its network of suppliers and mechanics. With this investment, RNR will be able to expand its workforce and further develop its tech platform both in Southern Africa and locally.
“HAVAÍC have been extremely supportive strategically while at the same time leaving us to do what we do best. They bring a fresh perspective and ask probing questions that open up new possibilities. We look forward to continue working closely with Kiara and the team as we take on our next growth chapter,” said Wayne Witherspoon, CEO and co-founder at RNR.
“The seasoned team at RNR knows their industry inside out. Their hands-on expertise and impressive network mean RNR is well-positioned to take advantage of the escalating demand for their technology in Southern Africa’s significant transport and logistics market. We are excited to deepen our relationship with RNR and support their remarkable growth trajectory,” said Kiara Suttner-Tromp, investment principal at HAVAÍC.
