SG IoT startup Beep raised undisclosed Seed funding from GGV Capital
An undisclosed seed round led by GGV Capital and investor Wing Vasiksiri has been completed by Singapore-based IoT company Beep. Participants include XA Network, SUTD Venture Holdings, and NUS Technology Holdings.
A roaming network for electric vehicles called VoltNet is also being introduced by the startup. Drivers of electric vehicles (EVs) can use charging stations from a variety of providers without having to download additional apps due to the service, which is run through the company’s e-mobility platform, Voltality.
In Singapore, partners include SP Group, ComfortDelGro Engie (CDG ENGIE), Charge+, as well as QuickCharge, MNL Solutions, and Go by City Energy as strategic partners.
“Southeast Asia is experiencing a key inflection point in its journey towards a fully electric future, with Singapore playing a leading role due to our relative maturity and charging network density,” said Kristoffer Jacek Soh, co-founder and CEO of Beep. “We strongly believe that for mass adoption to successfully pick up, charging connectivity must be seamless, interoperable, and collaborative.”
Beep intends to use the money to extend VoltNet into Malaysia, Thailand, and other nations in the area.
Beep was established in 2018 with the goal of enabling IoT-based cashless vending transactions. In 2021, it first unveiled Voltality, which seeks interoperability across various EV charging networks.
A white-label website and API are provided by Voltality. As a result, operators don’t have to further integrate with Voltality’s platform, nor does the service itself have to create a proprietary charging app.
The Singapore-based Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre, Tribecar, EVFY, Singapore Electric Vehicles, and Quantum Mobility are a few of the network’s early adopters.
The first VoltNet pilot with five operators began in June 2022. In addition to VoltNet, Voltality offers the modular terminals VoltPOS and the virtual point-of-sale system VoltNow.
