Stake in Nham24 acquired by Grab to grow food and grocery delivery market in Cambodia
In an effort to expand the food and grocery delivery business in Cambodia, Singapore-based superapp Grab has purchased a portion of the country’s food delivery and e-commerce platform, Nham24.
After receiving regulatory approval from the Cambodian Competition Commission, Grab announced in a statement on Monday that it had finalized an agreement to purchase Nham24’s operations in Cambodia.
Since its debut in 2016, the domestic Cambodian brand Nham24 has expanded quickly.
In order to promote increased innovation in the Cambodian market that will benefit local users and regular enterprises, the arrangement combines Grab’s cutting-edge technological skills, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), with their extensive local understanding.
“This partnership is forged on shared values. We have deep respect for all that Nham24 has achieved, and are committed to preserving and building on the high quality standards they are loved for,” said Sovannarot Kang (Mike), Country Head of Cambodia.
He claims that Grab’s capacity to make large investments in technology and innovation is what makes it a regional superapp.
“We intend to harness those abilities to bring greater affordability and convenience to users, higher productivity for drivers, and more inclusive growth for small businesses,” he added.
According to Nham24’s founder and CEO, Borima Chann, the combination will enable the company to leverage Grab’s technological prowess and extensive R&D resources to propel this to new heights.
The announcement claims that the business combination intends to increase chances for regular entrepreneurs by promoting sustainable, long-term growth for on-demand services like food delivery, grocery delivery, and ride-hailing in Cambodia.
Grab’s investments in a range of tools, such as an advertising toolkit, a merchant portal for daily sales management, and other AI-powered solutions, will help merchants of all sizes run their operations more effectively, attract new customers, and expand their businesses both online and offline.
Drivers and delivery partners will also profit from increased earning opportunities due to the larger concentration of orders that will arise from Grab and Nham24 joining forces.
This covers employment opportunities in a network of ride-hailing and delivery businesses.
Grab aims to increase the productivity and income of its delivery and driver partners by utilizing its sophisticated map technology and data science skills.
Better batching, which enables delivery drivers to pick up several orders at once, will also result in more reasonably priced options for customers.
