Tamil Nadu Government backs three tribal startups with funding and support

The Tamil Nadu Government has backed 3 tribal startups. This comes as a part of its initiative to promote entrepreneurship in Tamil Nadu and the state’s tribal regions.

Commenting on this, Director and CEO, StartupTN Mission, Sivarajah Ramanathan said, “This was the first-time tribal startups were getting funded. These startups would play a pivotal role in achieving Tamil Nadu’s $-1 trillion economy goal by 2030.”

The government has been working towards inclusivity when it comes to the startup ecosystem. Among eight startups, three startups received funding of Rs 9.75 crore by the Tamil Nadu Government. The three startups backed by the Government include TAMS Tribal Green Fuel (biomas briquettes manufacturing facility), Namsanthai Kotagiri (startup producing and trading in honey and coffee), and Sholakar Tribal Creations a startup that trades in honey, seemar brooms, and furniture.

On May 5th, the CM of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. M.K. Stalin, issued sanction orders for investments totaling Rs. 9.75 crore in eight startups through the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (StartupTN) in the second batch under the Tamil Nadu SC/ST Startup Fund. Three Startups supported by entrepreneurs from tribal groups in Hasanoor and Tamarakarai in Erode district, and Kotagiri in The Nilgiris, were among the investment recipients at the event held in the CM’s Chamber.

The Tamil Nadu Government is focused on supporting tribal startups and is part of its broader effort to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the state, especially in rural areas.

This initiative was welcomed by stakeholders in the startup ecosystem.

Tamil Nadu government’s support for these tribal startups will be a promising development for the state’s startup ecosystem. It also shows that the Government is working hard in order to promote the startup culture.
