The 14th Orange Social Venture Prize awarded to African startups
The 14th Orange Social Venture Prize (OSVP) in Africa and the Middle East has awarded cash prizes to five African startups.
Since 2011, Orange’s strategy to support the growth of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the inclusive development of the nations in which the Group operates in the Middle East and Africa has been centered on the OSVP.
Five out of the 1,600 applicants from 17 countries were awarded at the international ceremony in Morocco, marking the winners of the 14th edition of OSVP, which honors and supports startups whose technological solutions have a positive social impact in Africa and the Middle East.
The Moroccan logistics solution SAVEY won EUR25,000 (US$27,000) as the International Grand Prize, which honors the top three technology-based projects with a social or environmental impact. WeFix, an electronics platform from Tunisia, came in second with a prize of EUR15,000 (US $16,000), and Cocoa Shield, an AI startup from Ivory Coast, came in third with EUR10,000 (US $11,000).
MyTindy, an online marketplace that links craftspeople with global consumers, won the EUR20,000 (US $21,000) International Women’s Prize, which is given to a startup with a high-impact project run by a woman. Additionally, Egyptian AI startup Intella won the EUR10,000 (US $11,000) Coup de Coeur prize, which is given to a project that stands out for its uniqueness.
