The founder of GitHub funds Egyptian fintech startup MoneyHash

As part of a soon-to-be-announced seed round, Egyptian fintech startup MoneyHash has received funding from Tom Preston-Werner, the founder of GitHub.

MoneyHash is a company that was founded in late 2020 by Nader Abdelrazik, Mustafa Eid, and Anisha Sekar. It offers a unified checkout experience built on top of a secure super-API that brings together payment and fintech solutions through a single integration, as well as a central dashboard that consolidates technical infrastructure, centralizes data, and streamlines operational reporting.

As it emerged from beta in February 2022, the startup announced a US $3 million pre-seed funding round. It then quickly launched its services across Africa. Preston-Werner, the co-founder and former CEO of the software development company GitHub, has invested in the startup as it works to secure a seed round.

“When we met with Tom, Mustafa and I were just big fans who wanted to get some feedback and guidance from an entrepreneur we admire. It was very surprising and exciting to know his interest in investing in us and being an active partner in our journey. His positive feedback on the quality of our tech and the product-driven approach is a great testament to the team and their efforts over the last couple of years,” Abdelrazik said.

The technical excellence and product vision of MoneyHash, as well as the founders’ comprehensive knowledge of the payment environment in Africa and the Middle East, impressed Preston-Werner, he said.

“This region is growing exponentially, and it is quite intuitive to bid on infrastructure products built by quality teams. Nader and his team attracted a fantastic group of tech talent, and I am excited to join their journey,” he said.
