VC firm in Singapore raised $34 M to invest in alternative proteins
Good Startup, a Singapore-based venture capital firm specializing in the alternative protein business, has closed its multi-stage fund with around $34 million in pledges.
Vijay Goradia, the founder and chairman of Vinmar International; Harris Komishane, the former head of finance and strategy for Fidelity Investments; and Bala Vissa, an INSEAD professor of entrepreneurship, are among the investors in the new investment vehicle, named Good Protein Fund I.
Through the fund, Good Startup has invested in a variety of firms that offer plant-based or food-tech alternatives to animal protein. Among these are Eat Just, The EVERY Company, SuperMeat, VitroLabs, and TurtleTree.
Good Startup plans to help its portfolio companies with intellectual property protection, organizational design, recruitment, and finance.
The venture finance firm has made 21 of its target 35 investments since its debut last year.
